Socialite playboy Jaro Cruse loses his clothes—and his name and identity—as part of witness protection, all so that he won’t lose his life. But did they have to send him masked as a nerd to a wacko island community off the coast of Maine? What’s a celebrity like him to do? Get out, of course. But then why then did he so strangely free, now that he’d escaped fame and fortune?

Roslyn McGuiver, the young mayor of the island, knows that nerds are safe. After all, they’re like a third sex! Yet why does she have to fight off this weird attraction to her geeky, uncooperative summer student employee? Meanwhile, she has a community in desperate need of a new direction that needs her attention. And as annoying as he is, Jaro has an even more annoying habit of getting very useful—and very smooth— he wants to.

They’re not precisely fighting but not incisively getting along. He’s not being honest, and she’s not being open-minded. But thanks to the intervention of the island’s cult, biker gang, and pirates, the Women’s Muffin League, the town council, and of course, Hurricane Hubert, both learn to let go of the past.

Fan-freakin-tastic!

This book is so full of hilarious characters, improbable situations, & laugh-out-loud conversations, I demolished it in less than 3 hours!

Jaro Cruse foiled a bank robbery & became the newest target of a murderous villain, so off to Witness Protection he goes. Well, actually, off to the wildest town/village/hamlet one could imagine, happily distributed between four islands off the coast of Maine. And when he finds himself attracted to the town’s mayor/ferry captain, Roslyn McGuiver, who also happens to be his boss, Jaro decides that maybe a bit of eccentricity is just what he needs.

Despite the fact that one must seriously suspend disbelief while reading, this tale makes it all worthwhile. Colorful characters splash across the pages, including Roslyn’s dad, who’s trying his darndest to be a scary pirate, Roslyn’s good friend, Dove, who runs a local commune, & local Lodge founder & leader, Darko, to name a few. Owen has quite an imagination combined with a wicked sense of humor & excellent writing skills. The prose was engaging, the dialogue, believable.

Ok, so I totally didn’t buy Jaro as a nerd. (Seriously, Roslyn? You need to be smacked a bit, me thinks.) There were a few other things like that popping up occasionally (or frequently) while I was reading, but that’s where suspending disbelief pays off. Because this story is totally worth it. I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun reading.

An editor is desperately needed, but it was easy to gloss over errors & the occasional extra or missing word. Truthfully, I didn’t really care. I just wanted to keep reading.

If you’re looking for something to keep you laughing for a few hours, this is the book.

Lovable Characters and Great Dialogue

This was my first time reading this author and I was not disappointed. She had great dialogue and chemistry between Jaro and Roslyn and managed to create a delightfully eccentric world for them to get to know one another in. There were plenty moments where I laughed out loud and while the suspense elements of Jaro’s witness protection program were slightly unbelievable it definitely did not detract from the story. My one personal request would be for a little more steamy scenes between Jaro and Roslyn but the book definitely didn’t feel like it was missing anything. I would for sure reccommend this book and you really can’t beat the price.

This story was fantastic. I liked the characters, and the story had me laughing from the get-go. I really enjoyed it!!!! GREAT BEACH READ!!!!
