It’s so easy to become smug in the freedom that being child-free brings. But we can’t carry on to close our eyes to reality. Children are born everyday; they are not going anywhere. They are born to parents who are well equipped and to some…well…not so much.

In a world where separation is the norm, why not take the road less traveled. The road that leads to understanding and, dare I say, compassionateness for those who have taken the road of parenthood.

It is high time to put down the wicked weapons of tongue and pen; and pick up the tools of understanding and compassion. We may do this by understanding 5 things in regards to raising children.

1. It’s hard. Parents fetch home this little humane that must be nurtured into a capable adult. More ofttimes than not they get started from ground zero when it comes to parenting – so they make it up as they go along. Just think how you would feel if you were shoved on a stage to carry out Beethoven’s 5th, and all you know is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Can we say pressure? Parents do the best they may with what they know. Don’t we all?

2. It’s scary. Arguably parents have one of the toughest assignings on earth. They raise the future. It’s like having that red button in the oval office staring you in the face everyday. One untrue move and you may ruin the world. The good thing is the President has a cabinet of advisers…most parents don’t.

3. It’s expensive. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates for families earning $41,700 to $71,200 the cost of raising a child is $184,320. Enough said.

4. It’s tiring. As you drift off to sleep to the sound of crickets to begin your full six to eight hours of sleep – numerous parent is wide awake. Parents suffer terribly from sleep deprivation. They turn into walking zombies. Sleep deprivation is most times equated to torture; parents will probably say it is torture. But a good deal of do it out of love. You’ve got to admire that.

5. It’s life changing. Almost each parent you speak to will say their lives changed the moment their child was born. Although many child-free adults will never experience this, by choice by choice of course, it is still a pretty thing to behold. A parent with unfeigned love for their child is a divine sight.

So the next time you feel the need to bash parents for breeding, think with regards to these five things and the fact somebody decisive to take that hard road to fetch you here.

3Excellent book, but kindle version is flawed
By Israel Drazin
This book is excellent, but the kindle version is flawed. The author tells her readers that she is presenting a selection of the world’s art masterpieces for the enjoyment and education of children. She introduces her book with a history of art. This history includes some quaint ideas such as that some art pieces reveal that men in some ancient cultures wore their beards in bags, covering them as they cover their body with clothes. She also describes art in different cultures. In her description of art in the US, for example, we read of paintings that were done by a group of artists, each focusing on a different part of the painting, such as one on sky and others on landscape, water, people, animals, and the like. She also reveals how some portrait artists did not disclose the truth about the subject being painted. She feels that there are over 1,000 pictures that young people should know “since he can hardly know too much of a good thing.” But because of space requirements she could only include 48.
